Freeing Sully and For the Love of Whiskey by Melissa Foster
REVIEW
I knew going into this prequel and book that I was going to be torn apart. And Melissa Foster did not disappoint. If you read the prequel, which you do not need to, you meet Sully as she escapes from the cult that has held her captive forever. It shows you her determination to get away, you meet the type of person she is, and you see how far she is willing to go to be free. Free is the defining word here. Freedom to be who she is (once she firgures it out) and Freedom to do what she wants.
From the prequel, we once gain are introduced to the Whiskeys of Redemption Ranch. A place were people go to learn how to heal. There is an emphasis on therapy and being a part of life again. What I really love about this series is the fact that there are so many differing types of therapies that they speak about. Foster shows that there is an understanding in this family that no everyone heals in the same way. That people need different ways to open up and feel comfortable.
Callahan “Cowboy” Whiskey is total book boyfriend material. He meets Sullivan Tate and he is a goner. Full stop… he is hers. While their relationship takes time to cultivate as Sully figures out who she is and where she belongs, Cowboy doesn’t hold her back. Sully is discovering that the life that she lived was a lie. She knew that she never truly belonged where she grew up, but once she finds out why then she feels adrift.
This story is so much more than a relationship. It’s a story of finding yourself, finding your place, and healing from heartache. Foster hits you in all the feels, and the end of this book caused a major book hangover. There are so many things that I want so say about this book, but it is one that you truly just need to dive into, but set aside some time because you won’t want to put this one down.
