Scouting the Single Dad by Sara Ney

A fake relationship that created some of my favorite moments.

Scouting the Single Dad is another enjoyable, easy read in the Axes & Endzones series. Hayes and Layla click from the start, and I loved that their relationship begins with playful texting before an unforgettable meet-cute. Hayes’s grumpy personality paired perfectly with Benny’s determination to play matchmaker. I also loved the fake relationship—it created some of my favorite moments between Hayes and Layla.

Hayes is wonderfully grumpy without ever losing his soft side, especially where Benny is concerned. She steals nearly every scene she’s in, and her determination to find her dad a girlfriend adds plenty of humor and heart. Layla is a great match for Hayes, and their chemistry shines, particularly during a memorable baking scene that perfectly balances the romance and tension between them.

The story lost a little momentum for me toward the end with one particular plot choice that didn’t quite work, but it wasn’t enough to take away from my overall enjoyment. Like the previous books in the series, this is a light, entertaining romance that’s easy to sink into.
