Rebecca Yarros never fails to rip me apart and put me back together. The opening chapter in this book makes your heart hurt so much for these two characters. Knox and Harper are soulmates in every sense of the word, but there are outside and internal issues that keep them apart for years. But when Harper steps up to care for two little boys, fate takes over and doesn’t back down.
These two have so much push and pull. There are ups and downs, triumphs and failures, but together they show everyone around them just how perfect they are together. And how they are the best versions of themselves because of each other. Knox, oh Knoxville, you broke my heart over and over again because you truly felt like you weren’t worthy of the love that Harper has shown you your whole life.
Harper, by heart broke for you because you saw the perfect fit tor yourself, but Knox refused to see it. There are so many happy moments in this book, but there are moments that rip you apart because you just want everything to move smoothly. Yarros treats the situation with these boys with such love and harsh reality that you want to just hug and love every kid in the world. Ryker, sweet stupid Ryker, I can’t wait until you get your balls handed to you by the heroine that you aren’t expecting. There were moments with him (Ryker is Harper’s brother) that I wanted to punch him because he refuses to see Harper as the smart intelligent capable woman that she is. But then at times you want to love on him because you can understand his reasoning for some of the reactions that he has.
I am in major book hangover mode because of this book, and I am not sad about it at all. I can’t wait to see where Rebecca Yarros takes us on this firefighter journey!
