Carina has been hired to care for Flynn’s mother who has been dealing with a dementia diagnosis. However, when Flynn does a background check he finds some not so great information and fires her. This doesn’t hold thankfully, and Carina goes back to care for his mother. These two had an instant connection, but Flynn has a hard time trust people because of his past.

Carina is trying to move past the events that happened and forced her to leave town, but it isn’t easy for her. She is a genuinely good person and wants to just live her life. But what Carina realizes, is that she isn’t all that safe in her new life. Flynn is a protector thru and thru but being a lab rat for a couple of years has left him a little bit jaded. He wants to move forward and has been, but still harbors a lot of distrust. Tries to keep his relationships at a base level, but realizes when he meets Carina that just isn’t possible anymore.

These two balance each other out, and while there are some hurts that happen, it works. I wanted more of the Blue Halo group this time around, only because they are such a vital part of this series, but I wasn’t disappointed with the way in which the story plays out at the same time. We get a little teaser into the next book, which I both love and hate. Carina and Flynn get their HEA, and I can’t wait to see more of this found family of characters in the next book.
