Review of Cocky Doc by Samantha Lind

Drew and Meghan’s story is such a sweet and unique story.  There is a lot to unpack in this story.  First off Meghan has cerebral palsy and is mostly confined to a wheelchair.  Her out look on life and her passions are unique to her.  She is a Child Life Coordinator (CLC) at the Pediatric Hospital where Drew works.  Drew is the head of Pediatric Surgical Cardiology but also comes from an influential family.

Drew literally trips over Meghan to introduce himself to her.  There is an instant spark between the two of them, but it is thanks to some creative meddling from Drew’s Cousin Lucy, who is also Meghan’s colleague that brings them together.

Drew is really a good guy!  He approaches the relationship with Meghan with such sweetness and gentleness not because of her situation but because he really likes her.  There are so many sweet considerate things he does for her.  He doesn’t talk down to her instead he moves to be eye level with her.  He is always thinking about how he can make things easier for her and convenient for her life since she has the wheelchair.  He sees Meghan as a whole person not someone damaged and in need of help.

Drew isn’t perfect he has a lot of worries and self doubt about how Meghan will handle the demands of his career.  Being a Pediatric Cardiologist is what makes Drew, Drew and he worries that the demand of it is too much for anyone to truly understand.  He misses important events because of emergencies and demands on his time.  What he seems to forget in his moments of self-doubt is that due to her own life circumstances she has a better understand than most about the demands and emergencies.

I really like these 2.  It is a very sweet and romantic love story. It has just the right amount of steam to keep it on the romantic side.  This was a 4.5/5 read for me. (I share my hang ups on the story on my blog at Bookcaseandcoffee.com)

Cocky Doc is part of the British Bedmates realm.

So, part of the reason this wasn’t a 5/5 read for me was that a small part of the story deals with a young patient of Meghan and Drews who needs a heart transplant.  It was a small part of their story but a catalyst that bonds them together.  I am the mother of a transplant kid and some of the things in the story left nagging feelings for me.  While nothing was technical was miss represented if it had been, I would not have been able to read the story. This is a huge pet peeve for me.  Some details were just vague enough however to be annoying in the back of my mind.  But again, my knowledge wouldn’t affect the average reader it is something unique to my circumstances.  This is a really good read however and highly encourage everyone to give it ago.
