I started this book fully blind to what it was about and boy did I get a treat! There’s something to be said about a man hardened by life that softens only for the woman he loves. The best part this time? He’s loved her since they were teenagers and this is his chance to do things right.
On the night of his 18th birthday, Logan Landry got in the kind of trouble nobody ever expected, with people dead and him going to prison. What should have been the beginning of the rest of his life quickly turned into the nightmare that set the tone for the future. Emory knows and believes Logan’s innocence – the wrong place at the wrong time. But when a teenage girl goes missing soon after his release, they’re both forced to face the truth: time has changed both of them.
The mystery got was thrown into this book really set the entire tone. The town is ready to blame Logan immediately. Emory has to focus on her daughter who knew the girl missing, and OH YEAH she’s the head of the police detachment investigating her disappearance. Honestly where I struggled the most with this story was wishing for Emory to be bolder about her love and care for Logan. But really, I cannot confidently say that I would behave any differently. The attention to detail and the rehabilitation Logan goes through with his family and Emory was really heartfelt since his parents went through the ringer with the entire situation in their past. The pitfall I saw was not even abnormal to the normal world – everyone was SO ready to blame Logan and I was soooo frustrated by the one-dimensional treatment of him, probably because it’s accurate in real life.
Overall I had a great time with this love story and the mystery kept the story moving forward at a pretty decent pace. I am pretty proud of the fact I caught the twist ahead of time though! I would definitely recommend this book if you like romance with a side of crime.
