Let me state… this is a series of standalones with an overarching storyline that weaves through the three-book series.  HOWEVER, Corinne Michaels writes these stories in such a way that you do not need to read them all.  I read book one, the start of book two (it wasn’t a DNF but I haven’t went back to it for some reason) and then all of book 3.  I wasn’t lost at all on the storyline itself.  You can totally pick this up in any order.

But let’s talk Sophie and Holden.  These two met in Vegas has a one-night (but can you really call it that with the way it went down) stand.  Full names weren’t shared and after Sophie returns to England, she finds out she is pregnant.  With no name, she isn’t able to find Holden.  Her family basically disowns her, and her best friend marries her.

When he is on his deathbed, he tells her that she is in trouble and sends her away on this crazy adventure to Rose Canyon.  Where she sees Holden again… the father to her little girl.

Holden is smitten from the get-go.  Their interaction in Vegas is a little hazy for reasons, but there is no doubt in Holden’s mind that Eden is his daughter.  What follows these two is the search for the truth of what Sophie’s husband was a part of and how it ties into the bad things happening in Rose Canyon. It’s a slow burn that makes sense and you honestly don’t miss it at the being of the book because of the way in which the story transpires. And once they make that step forward, they never falter.

“Dancing in the dark is what got us in trouble.”

I don’t read a lot of Corinne Michaels, but this suspense book hit me right where I needed it. The relationship between these three characters progresses naturally and organically.  Holden and Sophie feel that intense connection that they felt before without the aid of alcohol and see that it reigns true.  This is a great story with an amazing group of friends.
