When I hear Penny Reid is coming out with a new book, I am all in.  I have been looking forward to this book for months, and it truly did not disappoint.  We meet Abby and Rex, two people who have known each other their wholes lives, but not really known each other.  Abby has always harbored a crush for Rex, but they weren’t in the same circles growing up and Rex never really noticed Abby.  Or did he?  There is a lot of looks can be deceiving types of things in this book because of the way in which is plays out.

Rex is known for all of his ex-girlfriends meeting and marrying the next person they date after him.  Is this fate, or something more?  There are so many intricacies in this book, and there is a lot of self-reflections and self-doubts.  But there is a lot of growth and realizations.  This is a slow burn or a romance that allows these characters to learn so much about each other, but at the same time, these two hold so much back.  There are little moments of insight that you love, but then Reid snaps it away and makes you question truths.  But not in a bad way.  One thing that I really enjoy about this book is the lack of side characters.  Yes, we get a couple of really important ones that will be introduced in later books in the series, but this book is mostly Abby, Rex, and their relationship.

My one huge gripe about this book is the fact that we only get Abby’s POV.  Which it works, but with the way in which Rex holds himself back in a lot of ways, I wanted more of the inner thoughts and self-issues that he holds.  Aside from that, this is another great Penny Reid book, and I can’t wait to see where the series takes us!
