The last couple of books from Anna Blakely didn’t hit the mark for me, so I was hesitant to start this new series. But I was happy to see this one was reminiscent of her original series that made me fall in love with her writing. There are still some of those little elements that I am missing from her… but I enjoyed this one more than the last couple.
R.I.S.C.’s Delta Team is based out of Chicago and was excited when Blakely utilizes the landmarks found in the city in a smart way. Christian by Anna Blakely gives us a siblings best friend, friends to enemies to lovers story that was intriguing and entertaining. This story introduces us to Christian and Megan. Christian is the best friend and teammate of Megan’s older bother. While there is a slight age gap, it sin’t anything significant. Over the yers, Megan has made it known that she cares for Christian as more than a friend. But about five years prior to this story he has started treating her less then.
Which I think is where I had issue with the story. I can get him wanting to pull back because of the growing feelings that he stated having. But I didn’t like the way in which he did it. He is supposed to be this alpha man who knows Megan exceptionally well, but over and over again turmoils about a promise that he made Brody, her brother, when they were younger. But he should know better, and the way he treats her get to me.
But alas… it doesn’t last long and Christian ends up being everything I want in an Anna Blakely book.
There is intrigue and suspense surround our heroine. Christian pushes his way into her life in a way that Megan isn’t expecting, and I enjoyed the way the rest of their story plays about. If you are on the fence about this book… stick with it. It’s worth the read in the end.
