A Queen Crowned in Flames by Hazel McBride

Betrayals, dragons, and an ending that delivered.

A Queen Crowned in Flames picks up right where A Fate Forged in Fire left off, and Hazel McBride continues to handle heavy subject matter with care. The content warnings are appreciated and necessary, especially with some of the darker themes carried through this conclusion.

The first part of this book was a little harder to get into. Aemyra is dealing with the loss of her magic and the weight of the choices she made in book one, and that slower start makes sense for where she is emotionally. However, once the dragons and Fiorean came back into the mix, I was fully invested. His motivations are finally revealed, and the payoff was worth the wait.

There are betrayals and losses that genuinely gutted me, and I am not saying a word about them. Additionally, the new characters brought unexpected depth and made a strong addition to the story.

Overall, I was happy with how this duology wrapped up. The ending feels complete and satisfying, while still leaving enough space for more if the author decides to return to this world.
