Mutual Discord is a slow burn forbidden romance. I knew it was going to be messy going in, and I still found myself frustrated with how it played out.

Sofia and Alex are both wonderful characters individually, and their chemistry is undeniable from their earliest online conversations. The single POV from Sofia’s perspective works well here, letting her misconceptions and assumptions drive the tension, even when they occasionally drove me crazy. I loved the concept behind her internet series, The Matildas, spotlighting women erased from their own history. Sofia’s parents and her friend Denise add so much warmth to this book, welcoming Alex in and teaching him more about his own Puerto Rican heritage through food, culture, and family.

Pacing was where this book struggled for me. There is a fair amount of repetition, especially in conversations and social media details, and the middle felt slower than it needed to be. Still, the chemistry between Sofia and Alex kept me invested even when the story lagged.

The forbidden romance angle made this premise a harder sell for me than I expected, but I still enjoyed spending time with these characters and am excited to see where Liana De la Rosa goes next.
