Review: Mr. Heartbreaker by Piper Rayne
When it comes to hockey romances, Piper Rayne truly knows how to deliver the heat and heart, and Mr. Heartbreaker is no exception. This sizzling story, which kicks off the new series The Nest, is a delightful blend of forbidden romance, playful banter, and undeniable chemistry between the main characters, Rowan Landry and Kyleigh.
The setup is irresistible: Kyleigh made a promise to her brother not to date his teammates, but Rowan—her brother’s ex-teammate—seems to fly just under the radar of that deal. Their “just sleeping together” arrangement quickly deepens into something much more, but things get complicated when her brother joins Rowan’s team, the Chicago Falcons. The tension between Rowan’s protectiveness and Kyleigh’s fierce independence makes for an engaging push-and-pull dynamic that draws you in from page one.
What really stood out to me was the camaraderie between the Falcon teammates. Piper Rayne’s ability to craft that locker-room banter and brotherhood adds a layer of fun to an already steamy romance. While the chemistry between Rowan and Kyleigh is electric, the moments between the team members bring warmth and levity to the story.
The audio was full-cast, and I am just not a fan of that, so I avoided it.
That being said, I did find the spice to be a bit overpowering at times—sometimes overshadowing the emotional connection I was craving between the leads. A little more balance between the steamy scenes and the development of their relationship would have made the story stronger for me. Still, Piper Rayne sets up the series beautifully with hints of future stories for the other Falcon players that have me excited for what’s to come.
Overall, Mr. Heartbreaker is a fun, fast-paced, and fiery romance that hockey fans and Piper Rayne lovers alike will enjoy. If you’re here for hot athletes, forbidden love, and heart-tugging moments, then this book is for you. I can’t wait to see where The Nest takes us next!
