Jock Romeo | Sara Ney
Sara teased her readers at the end of Jock Reign, and I was half in love with a character I had all of two seconds to know! And then I was absolutely sold on Roman and Lilly during the prologue. I am a sucker for an amazing, cute meet, and I think Sara Ney does them SO WELL!!! She always has the most amazing, and true to life meet cutes! Roman and Lilly attend the same school, but don’t run in the same social circles. Roman is a hard core academic that doesn’t devote enough time to his social life. Lilly, on the other hand is a cheerleader, and some might initially think that she devotes too much of her time to her social life. Roman lives at home with his cooky, amazing, loud and hilarious family. After a semester abroad he decides that is is finally time to spread his wings and live the college life all at the urging of his Great Aunt (I am going to get to her later, because she is a GEM, a gem friends). Through the most random of coincidences, he ends up living with Jack and Eliza. Where he runs into Lilly, literally. The two had an amazing chance encounter freshman year, and are just as drawn to each other as they were then. Lilly, sweet and kind Lilly. Recently single, and ready to be on her own and just enjoy her last year of college and is wrapping up her final season of cheerleading. She is an interesting character that really grew on me. I wasn’t sure how I was going to connect to her after Jock Reign, but I really did love her. She is quirky and funny in her own way. She also doesn’t see her worth, and is living her mothers dream for herself. I felt like Lilly was lost. And she was really looking for and needed a solid foundation to stand behind her and support her 100%. Roman and Lilly really had an easy friendship that slowly built up to more. They each had their own insecurities and tried desperately to hide them from the other. They were somewhat successful. These two will melt your heart and have you cheering them on from the sidelines!
I cannot not mention Aunt Myrtle. I wanted to get in my car and find this fictional place just to have dinner with this amazing character. She is a riot. Has so much wisdom, and saw everything…and really had no filter. She is the best 83 year old feisty aunt anyone would be proud to have. And the way she and Roman’s younger brother fed off of each other was glorious. There was a point in the book where I had to put my kindle down because I was laughing too hard. In my opinion, those are the best kind of books! So if you haven’t picked up this series, I don’t know what you are waiting for! Happy Reading, friends!
