Harbinger by Geneva Lee

Branded an omen. Hunted by the crown. Protected by the one man who should kill her.

Harbinger was a strong introduction to Geneva Lee’s writing, and I’m definitely interested in seeing where this story goes next. I really liked both Arden and Bishop, especially as their relationship developed throughout the book. There’s plenty of tension between them, but I appreciated that their connection takes time to build. Bishop’s protective nature paired well with Arden’s determination, and I enjoyed watching them slowly learn to trust each other.

The side characters at Bishop’s home were another highlight for me. The sense of found family that develops around Arden added some lighter moments to a story filled with danger and secrets. I found myself just as invested in those relationships as I was in Arden and Bishop.

There are a lot of surprises along the way, and several revelations had me questioning where things were headed. I did wish we had gotten a little more of Arden’s magic in this book, but the foundation is clearly there for book two. There are plenty of unresolved threads by the end, and I’m very curious to see how they come together.

And that cliffhanger definitely did its job. It left me wanting the next book immediately without feeling so abrupt that I was frustrated by it.

This was my first book by Geneva Lee, but it won’t be my last. I need to know what happens next!
