Crash Into You by Simone Soltani

Zaid’s story was worth the wait, on and off the track.

Crash Into You was my most anticipated book in the Lights Out series, and Zaid’s story really got to me.

Zaid and Ava have a history, complete with a bit of a scandal. That makes their reunion feel loaded from the start. When their one night together results in an unexpected pregnancy, Zaid is all in once he finds out. I really liked that there wasn’t a lot of unnecessary conflict around it. That makes sense given everything they have already been through. At this stage of their lives, they feel like exactly the right people for each other. They have both lost a parent, and that shared grief gives their relationship a connection that goes beyond attraction.

This is very much Zaid’s book. His hesitation about getting behind the wheel again after the crash felt so real, and I was completely invested in what this season would mean for him. The pregnancy gives him a new perspective on what he wants from his future, and I loved seeing him show up for Ava while facing everything that comes with getting back on the track.

The Singapore race had my heart in my throat, especially with Zaid and Axel racing again. The F1 world continues to be one of my favorite parts of this series, even as someone who doesn’t know much about the sport.

It was also great spending more time with Dev and Willow and Thomas and Stella. I’m really enjoying all of these characters and the friendships growing around them, and I’m hoping Axel and Reid get books of their own.
