Blue Jean Summer by Maggie Gates

Sometimes the best love stories start with a little rancher-approved fine print.

Blue Jean Summer is a charming, easy introduction to Maggie Gates’ Wilder Estates series. I’m always here for a good marriage of convenience, and I really liked how the trope was used here. Hayes and Catherine both have something to gain from their arrangement, but watching their relationship shift from a practical agreement into something real was the best part.

Catherine was an easy character to root for, and I loved how she brought out a completely different side of Hayes. He spends most of his time buttoned up and focused on business, but Catherine gets him to loosen up and embrace his inner cowboy. Gotta love those cowboy butts! Their chemistry was fun, and I enjoyed watching them settle into their marriage and get to know each other along the way.

I did find myself wanting a little more depth in some areas, particularly with Hayes and the conflict surrounding the estate. The story is fairly low angst, which worked for me overall, but I think a little more tension would have made the stakes feel stronger. Even so, this was an enjoyable read and a solid start to the series. I’m already looking forward to the next book.
