Dealing with a Desperate Demon by Charlotte Stein
A quirky, witchy rom-com where cozy chaos meets demonic charm.
Dealing with a Desperate Demon has a fun and quirky premise that immediately caught my attention—a witchy bookseller helping a demon learn how to date, only to realize she might be the one he’s fated for. It’s a cozy, slightly chaotic paranormal rom-com with plenty of humor, a Beauty and the Beast twist, and some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments (Popcorn the Pug and the demon truck were personal highlights).
That said, the pacing didn’t fully work for me. It took me a while to settle into the story, and Nancy’s inner monologue made some of the twists a little too easy to guess. I also struggled with Jack calling her “kid.” Even though it’s explained later, it pulled me out of the story every time.
I really enjoyed the ending once things picked up—it delivered the best action and emotion of the book. While this one didn’t completely land for me, the premise and humor make me curious to explore more of Charlotte Stein’s work in the future.
