Sports… but not hockey or football
Sports Romance has been around for a long time… but there are definitely booms towards one sport at times. Right now, there is a hockey sports phenomena going on, and big part of that is because many NHL teams leaded into the BookTok craze. But there are so many instances where sports and romance go hand in hand.
That being said, you can’t forget about all the other sports.
Because there are so many more options. Sports themselves are typically broken down into seasons (although a lot of them cover more than one, but I am giving you recs for some of the other sports.
Personally, I love a sports romance. Growing up I was big into sports and enjoyed watching all of them. As I got older, my love for playing and watching got less and less… and now I enjoy them from time to time but I would still rather read them.
There are two parts to the sports romance… the story needs to be dynamic and engaging. I want the character’s story to make sense and work together and separately. There is nothing more frustrating than starting a romance, and I truly don’t get why these two characters are together. But the writing of the sports itself needs to be correct. That isn’t to say that an author isn’t allowed to take some liberties but overall, the base knowledge has to be right.
I don’t want wrong information; I don’t want wrong terminologies. I want facts, and fun with the sport. One thing I love about sports romance is the fact that is isn’t necessarily an active player. Because athletes do not play in the perspective sports professionally forever… they need a next step plan.
