I went into this book as a standalone. I have only recently started to read Catherine Cowles books. This blurb just called to me.
Mason has been drawn to Anna since the first time he volunteered at Hope House. His life has not been perfect. Orphaned at a young age and left to basically care and raise his much younger sister has left him a little stunted in life. Mason knows what he wants but it has just never felt like the right time to try. He has been waiting and hoping for that chance to get it his foot in the door and make real grown-up connections with Anna.
Anna’s life has been anything but easy. Raised in an abusive household with a mother who did not protect her and a father who beat her. Anna thought she has finally found someone who cared about her but when that moment came, he chooses to save himself and sacrifice her.
10 years later Anna finally feels like things are ok. She has a career she loves. She has friends and a true community. She has recently reconnected with her sister and her children.
When tragedy strikes and Anna must trust Mason to help her. Mason takes the chance he has been waiting for to connect with Anna.
Both Mason and Anna are fantastic characters. Both have overcome to be in their moment. Both have obstacles that seem overwhelming but together they can overcome. Trust does not come easy to them. This romance is emotionally raw. At moments it will break your heart and something small and beautiful will happen to repair you heart. I came into this story have not read any of the books in the series, I now need to go back and read everyone else’s HEAs. This is a beautifully written romance that I highly recommend.
I wish he had gotten more chemistry from Mason and Anna. I know they come to care for each other and it a very well done slow burn. I just really wanted more push and pull between them. I wanted more passion and longing.
Catherine Cowles writes these beautiful and emotional stories that go so deep into your soul that they become a part of you. The way Cowles shows us these damaged souls finding love and the journey to acceptance is so well done. It gives you a true hope into love and the power of being loved.
