The Muse by Jewel E. Ann is book 2 in the Chain of Lakes series that started with The Homemaker. These are interconnected standalones so if you just want to jump into The Muse, feel free (but both are great). The Muse combines themes of first love, emotional healing, found family, opposite sides of the track and black sheep MMC and it all comes together beautifully as a story that had me laughing and crying profusely.
“Do you think I like feeling weak and fumbling my words? Do you think I want to lose sleep tonight, thinking about you? Do you think a guy who doesn’t date, wants to learn the rules to a game I clearly have never wanted to play?”
Flynn knows how to get by with as little as possible, from his job, from his friends, from life. Raised in the system, he is skeptical of anyone who appears to have it all. However, when hired as a ‘muse’ for a wealthy couple in Minnesota, they thrust him into a world he always hated. Then he meets June. She’s a bike tour guide who has him immediately tripping over himself and desperate for more banter. Their connection is fast and intense, and he feels like he finally found someone who wants a simple life too. A love that he never expected.
As Flynn learns to do more than just survive, he finds that people exist that can both see him and love him, scars and all. He begins to realize that there aren’t always strings attached to niceties – that kindness and love exist. But when June’s past comes back, will they be able to make it through the changes it brings? Can he expose his past and keep the one person who feels like home?
The Homemaker and The Muse are both available now on Kindle Unlimited or wherever you prefer to find your books!
