I am absolutely loving this second generation series from Lexi Blake and her Masters and Mercenaries. At the end of book 2 we got that small introduction to Deke and Maddie, and their story wasn’t quite what I was expecting.
Maddie is basically a genius who is working for a guy that she thinks the company is doing a lot of bad things. So, she seeks out Deke, because she knows that he works for a company that will be able to help her. One thing I love about this story, is the slow burn because it makes sense with the history of these two. But in true M&M fashion, we get those hilarious moments of the “wisdom of Ian Taggart” but we get a well thought out and intriguing story. I love the amount of action that holds these stories together, and it blends well with the relationships and interactions of the side characters. One thing that Blake does well is, while there are a whole slew of side characters, the way in which they are introduced it works well and the pages don’t feel over crowded. Now, let me tell you… these books are standalones, but there is an overarching storyline that is playing through this series. And the way in which this book ends, my heart breaks, and I know that once we get to Maebe’s book (which IS NOT FOR A WHILE!!!!!) I know that I am going to be broken over and over again. I can’t wait to dip back into this world, and I loved every second of Deke and Maddie’s story. They were able to get that second chance, and there was such a focus on communication that it makes sense that they were able to work through all of their previous issues and insecurities. Stay tuned friends, because this M&M series is going to take us on a wild ride!!
