Review: If You Love Me by Helena Hunting
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Second-Chance Romance | Sports Romance | Slow Burn | Audiobook Rec!
Lexi and Roman have officially stolen my heart! I’ve loved everything about the Toronto Terror series, but If You Love Me just took me over the edge—in the best way. This book gave me all the feels, and I was completely hooked from start to finish.
Let’s start with Lexi. She’s an absolute rockstar—raising her two younger sisters, breaking barriers as the first female Assistant Coach in the NHL, and navigating the constant pressure that comes with both roles. She’s strong, fierce, and determined, but also incredibly vulnerable in ways that made me love her even more.
Enter Roman Hammerstein. Sigh. The hot goalie with a heart of gold. Lexi never expected to see him again—let alone have him remember their weekend together three years ago. But not only does he remember every second, he’s also ready to break every rule to be with her. And oh boy, does he make waiting worth it.
Their chemistry is electric. On the ice, they’re all business (well, mostly—there’s definitely some lingering glances), but off the ice? Roman pursues Lexi like a man on a mission. Their connection is undeniable, and watching them navigate a secret relationship while dealing with the added pressure of being in the public eye had me on the edge of my seat.
One of my favorite things? Roman’s relationship with Lexi’s sisters. Fee and Callie have been through a lot, and Roman slides into their world like he was meant to be there. Whether he’s encouraging Callie’s hockey dreams or helping Fee navigate a new school, Roman steps up without ever being asked. And let’s just say… Callie may be all about hockey, but when Connor Grace is in the room? Roman who?
I listened to this one on audio, and Stephen Dexter and Stella Bloom absolutely nailed it. They brought Lexi and Roman’s story to life in a way that made every moment—on and off the ice—feel so real. The tension between the players, the swoony moments, and even the heartbreak were amplified because of their performances. They’re stellar, no pun intended.
This is hands-down my favorite Helena Hunting book to date. I connected with Lexi and Roman on so many levels, and their story hit me right in the heart. It’s funny, emotional, swoony, and yes, I may have teared up more than once. (No shame.)
