Marie Forces opens In the Air Tonight with a traumatic event, that holds witnesses hostage.
What follows is a story from many different POV’s that tells the aftermath of this event. In the Air Tonight itself goes between the past, and the present which is 14 years later. While often times, time jumps are frustrating… the way in which this book progresses they are necessary to the story progression. This book is heavy. It leads you on an emotional rollercoaster along with the characters. The focus to the storyline is how the consequences of one’s actions affects each and every person around them. Yes, it seems like I being vague, but it truly is something you need to read to run the full emotional gamut.
In the Air Tonight follows the crisis of conscience of Blaise and the choices she made 14 years ago.
Blaise gets some startling news, and this revelations pushes her to go back to her hometown to right a wrong. This book… it is more true crime/action with romantic elements because we do get a relationship side story between Blaise and new to the area Jack. However, that storyline is secondary and the focus of the book. In the Air Tonight focuses on the guilt that Blaise feels, the healing that Denise experiences, and the chaos that follows the revelations. The demise of relationships, the growth of others, and the strength that some characters never knew they had. Even with the multiple 1st person POVs, the storyline flows well and doesn’t feel bogged down with the changes. This books, like I said is a heavy read, but done in such a way that it works exceptionally well.
