Elise Faber is never one to shy away from complex characters. She is also not afraid to give characters issue that affect anyone. She is willing to show, that even though a character might be an NHL superstar they still have hang-ups. That even though a character has their dream job and a found family that steps up without fault, they still doubt their position in that family. Her stories are often driven by these characters, and not by the plot that surrounds them.

Josh and Jess fit perfectly together. However, Jess has baggage that she doesn’t believe that Josh could be a good guy. Plus, he has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth when it comes to her. Josh was instantly attracted to Jess, but said foot entered mouth and he keeps repeating that action. The thing with these two characters, is that they bring each other strength where they feel they are weak. But that strength was always there, they just needed the right person to coax it out of them. Josh himself has hang-ups because of his family, but you need to read the story to find out just what the issues there are. I adore this Gold Family, and love that this group of people are ride or die, not questions asked for those that need it. Some of the old guard is moving out, and the new is moving in… this isn’t a second generations story…. but rather a second line. Elise Faber writes an excellent hockey book that isn’t overdone with the sport but rather focuses on the storyline. And you get that tease into the next book, and I can’t wait!!
