The Lust Crusade by Jo Segura
A spirited blend of adventure, longing, and Minotaur-inspired mystery.
The Lust Crusade blends swoony mutual pining with archaeology-tinged adventure, and I had a great time with it. Dani and Theo have been dancing around each other forever—childhood friends, her brother’s best friend, years of unspoken feelings—and their chemistry absolutely shines once they’re forced into a fake engagement while trying to survive a group of artifact smugglers. I loved Theo’s soft spot for her (his nickname for her is adorable), and her complete obliviousness to how gone he’s always been for her.
The Greek mythology and Minotaur lore were a highlight, adding texture and stakes without ever becoming confusing. And even though this is the third book in the Raiders of the Lost Heart series, it reads as a true standalone. This was my first Jo Segura book, but definitely not my last.
My only small gripe is that the pacing dragged a bit in places, and while I enjoyed the slow burn, I would have liked a little more payoff at the end. Even so, Dani and Theo’s journey from long-held longing to a solid, satisfying love made this a fun, fast read with heart.
