Covert Vengeance by Kennedy L Mitchell
Tropes: Damaged Heroine; Damaged Hero; Protector; Heroine in Danger; Slow Burn
Kennedy L Mitchell is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. She has a way with words that sucks you in and you want to savor every word so that the book never ends. But at the same time, you want to speed through it because it’s that good.
This is book two in her Seals and CIA series, and she makes a guy that I disliked with a passion in book one into a guy that I couldn’t get enough of Sr. Officer Anthony “Flakes” Hackenbreg and his connection with Elliot “Half-Pint” Smith. These two have a connection that Elliot isn’t aware of, and Tony doesn’t want her to know. They start working on a new mission together in order for them both to get closure on a previous mission that left them both injured.
I loved the back and forth, the intense moments that they share. The relationships that they have with the previous books hero and heroine, and the fact that they both have fears of love and commitment but feel this unyielding response to one another.
I don’t want to spoil anything in this book, because you truly just need to read it. But the twist that happens…I didn’t see it coming. If you have yet to give Kennedy L. Mitchell a chance, you need to. You do NOT need to read book 1 of this series to follow along, it is a true standalone, but you can see just how far Tony has come in his personal growth if you do.
