This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews

What if you woke up inside your favorite book? This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me asks that question and delivers something unforgettable.

ALL THE STARS!!!

This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me is my top read of 2026 and I do not see that changing.

I have been a longtime fan of Ilona Andrews and I will admit I was nervous about embarking on a new series when I am already so deeply in love with so many of their others. That worry was completely unwarranted. This was everything I could have hoped for and more.

Imagine being transported into your favorite book world. For me that would be an Ilona Andrews book, which makes Maggie’s journey feel almost personal. She wakes up in a city she knows intimately from the pages of a famously unfinished dark fantasy series and her encyclopedic knowledge of the plot becomes her greatest weapon. Watching her navigate a world she loves while desperately trying to protect the living, breathing characters she has come to care about is absolutely riveting.

I am attached to every single character in this book. They are flawed and deeply human in ways that made me want to be a better person. So much happens that I cannot talk about without spoilers — readers need to experience it for themselves. What I can say is that the action and the twists kept me on the edge of my seat, and yet I prolonged this read as long as possible because I was not ready to leave.

This is epic fantasy with romantic elements — magic, a fully realized medieval world, mythical creatures, and the beginnings of something more. The main plot wraps up satisfyingly and then that epilogue lands like a punch I was not expecting. I need to know more and I cannot wait for what comes next.

The Book Devouring Horde continues to devour. If you are an Ilona Andrews fan, read this. If you love portal fantasy, this is absolutely one to try.
