The Younger Gods by Katie Shepard

Epic stakes, tangled gods, and a love that refuses to stay buried.

The Younger Gods has a strong premise, and I was immediately drawn to Iona’s quest to reclaim Taran, especially the twist that he no longer remembers their past. That reversal adds emotional tension and kept me invested in their dynamic.

The worldbuilding is ambitious, but the number of gods made it hard to keep everyone straight at times, which pulled me out of the story. Marit stood out as a highlight, and I’d happily read more about the sea god. The pacing also lagged for me until late in the book, when the chemistry between Iona and Taran finally clicked.

I understood why Iona kept her secrets, but as the story went on, that choice started to wear on the narrative. Still, the ending delivers some surprising turns and a cliffhanger that almost convinced me to continue, especially if the next book includes Taran’s POV.
