Allie and Luke meet when Luke intervenes when he witnesses two men following her. They have a moment that can only be described as kismet. Thees are two people that were meant to meet and be together. Before they part ways, Allie gives Luke what becomes their “sunset kiss”. It is sweet and perfect, and a theme throughout important moments in the book.

Luke has a tough childhood. He has come a long way from it, but still holds a lot of hang-ups and baggage because of it. Allie has moved to the area to teach and is immersing herself into the life of Baytown. They start to form a connection and relationship when Luke finds out that he is getting guardianship of his niece and nephew. His brother and sister-in-law are not good people and are involved in some bad things, and are terrible people. Luke does want he can for the two kids even before this happens, and doesn’t falter when they need him. Allie steps up in a way he never excepted, and Luke makes some decisions and statements that almost blow up in their faces.

Maryann Jordan writes an emotional story without being over the top. She has a slower paced writing that I enjoy, but definitely need to be in the mood for. She isn’t over the top in her scenes, so if you are looking for a book that is engaging and entertaining but not over the top sexy then Jordan is the author for you.
