Let me start off saying the POV of this book is third person multi with a single first person mixed in. This first person is the villain of the story and while it might seem jarring or off-putting, the style in which Kaylea Cross treats it works really well. You get into the head of the baddie more than you would if it had just stayed in the typical their person in this story.

The story itself is the HEA of Mia and Asher. Asher has a reputation and not all of it good, and Mia wants nothing to do with that even thought she feels a connection to him. Asher is one of this heroes that you aren’t sure if you are going to like, but in the end he really comes through. He is extremely closed off because of his past and it is really a hot button issue for him.

Mia is a woman with hurts in her past and while it shapes a lot of her choices, she doesn’t allow that to rule her life. The first books in this series by Cross missed the mark for me, so I wasn’t sure going into this one what I was getting it to, but I was pleasantly surprised. It took me back to the first couple of books that I read from her, and it was the perfect blend of romance and suspense. There are little Easter eggs into the next book, and I am excited and hopeful that she found her stride in this series.
