Seek the Traitor’s Son by Veronica Roth

A dystopian romantic fantasy that demands your full attention.

2026 has been a remarkable reading year and Seek the Traitor’s Son just raised the bar even higher.

Veronica Roth has built something masterful here. The way the various character stories and events are woven together around the prophecy is intricate and deeply satisfying. Moreover, the worldbuilding is phenomenal — detailed and layered without ever feeling overwhelming. I found myself rereading chapters just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

The first ten percent of this book hit me hard. The grief and hardship that open the story were shocking in the best way, and that emotional weight never fully lifts. In fact, there is something happening on every page and the pacing never lets up.

As for Elegy and Theren — the yearning between them is everything, and I cannot say more without spoiling it. Ultimately, this is a book full of despair and devastation tinged with hope. I need Book Two immediately.

If you love dystopian romantic fantasy with phenomenal worldbuilding and characters that stay with you, this is one to add to your list.
