The last couple of books by Kaylea Cross were very good, but there was something missing in the stories for me. I went into this book thinking it was going to be on the same level as those and I was pleasantly surprised that it was more. So much more. Everleigh and Grady have known each other for a while, and have been friendly. He is there for her on one of the worst nights of her life. Kaylea Cross treats Everleigh’s guilt and grief gently and with grace.
Grady is a man with a plan, but Everleigh’s position in his life is making him question some of those plans. Grady and Everleigh are two soft people but no soft in a bad way. There are moments that the gruffer side of Grady comes out, and he is extremely protective of Everleigh which I really adored but he wasn’t so over the top that it was jarring to his character arc.
Cross mixes in the typical suspense, and we get more insight into the bad guy in this story that we do in some of the others he has written, but it works. There are times when an author adds those moments and it takes you out of the story but that isn’t the case here.
We get teases into upcoming books and couples, as well as check ins from others which I appreciate. But it is a series that you do not need to read in order to get the full experience.
