Aiden is a single dad to Owen, sheriff of Eureka, and hater of magic. We meet him 4 years after his wife has died and find out that he harbors resentment and frustrations from some realizations that come to light after her death. It has just been him him and Owen because Aiden refused to open himself up to heartache again.

Britt has left their small town for more. She is trying to run away from the chaos that her family and their beliefs bring to her. The mayor of Eureka (and her grandmother) wants Britt to come home because of a rise in crime in their small town. Britt has been working as a forensic photographer and is well versed in her job. So, she comes home to the job, and to the crush that she has had on Aiden for years. When she left months prior, her and Aiden had a moment but it was broken when his brothers interrupted them.

Owen and Britt’s dog Edward are the perfect distraction from the seriousness of the story. Owen takes to Britt right away, and while Aiden loves it, he hates it at the same time. Britt strives to keep herself separate from her mother’s determination to prove that her fathers death was on purpose because of the way that her mother is going about finding the truth. Aiden hates it because he has a hard time trusting that Britt is real and honest.

I enjoyed this book and the storyline takes me back to Louise’s standalones Here with Me and Wait for me which are two books that I loved. She got me in the feels with Aiden’s issues. And the way in which Britt deals with the fallout of some of the choices that she made. There are some extremely poignant moments in this book, and the relationship between the families is strong and true. Britt has her two best friends that are teased in a way that you hope they both end up with Stone brothers and I can’t wait.

A Top Quote:

In this moment, I want to believe her sweet dreams and fairy tales. I want to think it could be true. I don’t want to think about all the reasons why magic isn’t real or it won’t work. I want to believe in how maybe, it just might.
