Direct Action by Riley Edwards

Swoony romance, nonstop suspense.

Direct Action is my favorite book in the Downrange series so far. I was completely caught up in Ryan and Chloe’s story from the very beginning, and before I knew it, I had flown through the book without taking many notes—which is always the sign of a great read for me.

Chloe is carrying far more than anyone should have to. Watching her shoulder the responsibility of caring for her father while trying to keep everything afloat made her impossible not to root for. Ryan has been fighting his feelings for his employee for a long time, but the moment Chloe finds herself in danger, all bets are off. He is protective without ever overshadowing Chloe’s strength, and I loved watching these two finally stop denying what had been building between them. Their chemistry is incredible, and the slow burn payoff is absolutely worth the wait.

One of my favorite parts of this series continues to be the team. Ryan’s fellow operators rally around Chloe without hesitation. The banter balances the heavier moments, while the suspense surrounding the investigation had me turning pages late into the night. Riley Edwards knows how to blend high-stakes action with emotional romance, and Direct Action is a perfect example of why I keep coming back to her books.

If you’ve been reading the Downrange series, this one is not to be missed. The romance is swoony and the suspense is nonstop. I think I know which couple is next and I can’t wait.
