Sunday’s Best by Bailey Hannah
Cheating tropes are a hard no for me…except for this one.
Okay, in case you missed it, Bailey Hannah dropped a novella that is the ultimate steamy binge-read for a hot day. I will get out in front of this review and say this: I do not like cheating. It hits a little too close to home for me and I struggle to put that aside in the fiction world. However as a huge Bailey Hannah fan, I was willing to put that aside to give Sunday’s Best a read. Warnings from the author that are worth noting before proceeding: the cheating is NOT between love interests, yes her boyfriend cheats on her too.
Sunday figures that a road trip through rodeos with her boyfriend and his brother will give her time to enjoy the open road but also confirm what she knows deep down is true: Logan is cheating on her. They have been through this before and she needs to witness what she suspects – maybe this time she’ll go through with the break up. What she wasn’t planning on was the tension developing with Logan’s twin brother, Holden. From crashing her morning coffee, to acknowledging what she wants when Logan refuses to, Holden is a temptation Sunday was not ready for.
“Thank you.” For the poutine. For seeing me. For stopping before this became something neither of us could undo.
Logan is the definition of a jerk and I genuinely have no redeeming qualities for him. He is a whiny man baby who arguably has been coddled by everyone for far too long, including Sunday and Holden. Sunday frustrated me for awhile at the beginning because it felt like watching your friend (or yourself) be used as a doormat with nothing you can do but watch it happen. The more I read, the more I loved her and by the end of this novella I really loved her because I could see her growth!
Now…the cheating. I will be honest – I was not positive I would get through this one positively because it’s one thing for the douchey boyfriend to cheat, but for the FMC to also cheat? I was nervous. But when I tell you the tension was leaping off the page I am not joking in the slightest. There’s something about knowing they were sharing a trailer and absolutely dying for each other that had me blushing. It brought me back to Pride and Prejudice style hand-flexing at the simplest brush. I don’t want to give too much away since it is a novella and a fairly quick read, but let’s just say I may never look at a giant coffee pot the same again.
