Hollow begins Karina Halle’s A Gothic Shade of Romance duet with a moody retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. At Sleepy Hollow Institute, witchcraft and forbidden desire collide while the Headless Horseman stalks the shadows.
The gothic atmosphere drew me in right away. It blends spooky tension with a seductive energy that makes this an ideal fall read. Kat shines as a heroine who refuses to play the damsel. Her strength adds depth to the story and grounds the more dramatic twists.
The romance between Kat, Ichabod, and Brom sparks, though some of the relationship beats drag and slow the pacing. Even so, the chemistry works, and it builds a foundation for the sequel. The spice is intense, yet it doesn’t drown out the mystery. The plot holds enough secrets and danger to keep the pages turning.
By the end, I was left eager for Legend and curious about how the trio’s story will continue.
