The Shop on Hidden Lane by Jayne Ann Krentz

This is my first Jayne Ann Krentz book and I am kicking myself for not picking her up years ago. The Shop on Hidden Lane delivers a sharp, addictive mix of romantic suspense, paranormal intrigue, and family drama. The world Krentz builds pulled me in from page one. The long-standing feud between the Wells and Harper families gives the story a Hatfield and McCoy energy that never lets up. The tension feels lived in. The grudges feel sharp. And the secrets are worth every page.

Luke Wells and Sophy Harper grabbed me right away.

Both grew up believing they should not trust each other, yet they are forced to work together when her aunt and his uncle vanish under violent and very paranormal circumstances. Their search becomes an adventure that challenges everything they know about their families and themselves. I love how their talents evolve as the story unfolds. Luke questions the path he has been pushed toward. Sophy is confident in many ways but carries a deep uncertainty in her personal life. Watching them grow as individuals makes their partnership even stronger.

The chemistry between them sparks fast. Their banter is clever, quick, and engaging. Krentz writes them with a rhythm that feels natural and fun. And Bruce the dog absolutely steals every scene he is in. I love a dog who functions as a full character. Bruce adds humor and heart at the perfect moments.

The blurb warns us of psychic danger, long buried secrets, deadly conspiracies, and a desert art colony full of deception. The book delivers all of that and more. The pacing stays tight. The suspense keeps climbing. And the romance builds in a way that feels intentional and rewarding.

The Shop on Hidden Lane is smart, atmospheric, fast paced, and compelling. It blends paranormal suspense with a strong romantic core and characters who feel real. If you enjoy family feuds, psychic intrigue, slow burning trust, and a mystery that keeps you hooked, this book deserves a top spot on your reading list.
