The Paris Match by Kate Clayborn
Kate Clayborn delivers an emotionally rich romance in The Parish Match, a story that feels less focused on falling in love and more focused on what happens after a love story ends.
Layla is still trying to find her footing after her divorce. While the marriage may be over, the ripple effects remain. One of the things I appreciated most about this book is its honest portrayal of how the end of a long-term relationship impacts far more than just the couple involved. Friendships shift. Family relationships become complicated. Traditions change. Even when a breakup is “amicable,” there are still losses that linger.
The Paris setting was absolutely wonderful. The city provides a beautiful backdrop as Layla finds herself revisiting a very different version of her life.
The romance between Layla and Griff is a slow simmer that develops organically through emotional honesty and mutual respect. Their relationship doesn’t begin in an easy place. Griff is frustrated with Layla’s role in the wedding drama, and Layla is carrying emotional baggage she hasn’t fully unpacked. Yet watching them slowly learn each other felt authentic. Neither character is trying to rescue the other. Instead, they create space for one another to grow.
What stood out most was Layla herself. She’s a woman trying desperately to move forward while constantly feeling pulled backward by old memories, old relationships, and unresolved feelings. Her journey felt relatable and deeply human.
My only hesitation comes from the ending. Because the story takes place over such a short period of time, the relationship feels believable in the moment, but I finished the book wanting just a little more. The emotional foundation is there, and I absolutely believed in Layla and Griff together, but the conclusion left me feeling like I left their story before it was fully finished.
Overall, The Parish Match is a thoughtful, mature romance about healing, letting go, and finding the courage to open your heart again. Readers who enjoy character-driven stories, emotional growth, and romances built on respect and connection will find a lot to love here.
