Review: I Could Be Yours by Helena Hunting

“The best man ghosted me six years ago after kissing me, and now I have to plan every wedding event under the sun with him.”
Well, sign me up—because Helena Hunting nailed the grumpy/sunshine, second-chance magic in this one.

Rating: 4/5 Stars

In My Own Words:
Timing always seems to be off when two people share undeniable chemistry and deep-rooted emotional connection. But when your best friend is marrying his best friend, and you’re both stuck planning bachelorette parties, dress fittings, and salsa lessons… well, the universe might be telling you it’s finally your time.

Essie Lovelock is a delight. She’s a former fairytale-obsessed romantic who now channels all that energy into being an incredible friend and top-tier makeup artist. She’s nurturing, vibrant, and always present for those she loves—especially Nate. Her optimism never feels naïve—it’s her strength.

Nate Stiles– The grumpiest of grumps with a raincloud permanently parked over his head—but oh, this man feels. His aloofness hides a beautifully complex, emotionally wounded soul. He’s thoughtful, loyal, and impossibly charming once his guard begins to drop. Watching him fall (again) for Essie was like watching someone finally exhale after years of holding their breath.

Their romance is a slow-build second-chance reunion with heat, emotional depth, and undeniable longing. The angst is real—but never overdone. Every moment they share feels earned. I especially loved the honest portrayal of Nate’s struggles and how mental health is addressed with nuance, compassion, and even hope. There’s weight to this story, but it still sparkles with wit and chemistry.

Standout Elements:

  • Grumpy/Sunshine dynamic that actually works
  • Second chance romance with real emotional stakes
  • Summer wedding setting full of chaos, charm, and forced proximity
  • Family drama, found family, and deep friendship bonds
  • Smart, confident FMC and emotionally closed-off but evolving MMC
  • Positive portrayal of mental health and therapy
  • Side characters who feel like they deserve their own books (please, Helena?)

Final Thoughts:
I Could Be Yours gave me exactly what I was looking for—slow-burn yearning, messy emotions, second chances, and a couple you really root for. The emotional connection? Off the charts. The steam? Just the right kind of spicy. The ending? So satisfying.

If you’re a fan of wedding shenanigans, emotionally intelligent romance, and a little grump-sunshine tension done right, then put this one on your TBR.
