Good Pucking Luck | Riley Hart

I am a total sucker for a golden retriever and add in a hockey player and I am 100% sold!  Rylan Peirce is one of the sweetest, cockiest, goodest boys out there.  He is the perfect mix of serious and fun.  But right now he is busy with his professional hockey career, so a boyfriend or girlfriend just isn’t in the cards, but he is always down for some fun! I really loved Rylan. He was unabashedly him- he was cocky, funny, and has a huge heart.  He loves his family and friends and doesn’t shy away from telling people.

Hayes Blackburn has been burned in maybe the worst possible way. Hayes is already self conscious and he is humiliated very publicly by an ex….who had multiple boyfriends.  So when Hayes sets out to have a little no strings fun he finds himself a hot cocky hockey player that he of course had no idea was famous.  My heart hurt for Hayes. He was lonely, and in desperate need of people to cheer him on and be there for him.  Navigating friendships is difficult for people, and I really enjoy how Riley highlighted that it isn’t always easy for everyone- and that sometimes relationships are complicated.

From the start these two had amazing chemistry and banter.  Hayes becomes himself around Rylan, and Rylan relishes in that.  He loves the person that Hayes is- he encourages him to be more self confident and sees the good in him. Their  banter was also top notch- while both characters loved the other for exactly who they were they also loved to attempt to get a rise out of the other one. I also feel like when a couple has amazing banter, the chemistry is so very natural and Hayes and Rylan were no different from the get go. These two were electric- they were drawn to one another and really balanced each other out so well.  Rylan pulled Hayes out of his shell, and Hayes embraced Rylan’s quirks and playfulness.  Riley Hart always does a great job of highlighting different family dynamics- both biological and found and this book is no different. While both Hayes and Rylan have great supportive families they are also different- Rylan’s found family on the team and Hayes working to build his group of people.  I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I am so excited to see what is next for the Jilted Exes club!
