Book Review: The Bonus by TL Swan

The Bonus by TL Swan is an engaging close proximity, secret baby romance that spans seven years. It masterfully chronicles the turbulent yet undeniable connection between Grace and Gabriel, whose journey is a testament to the idea that some people are simply meant to be together. The chemistry between the two main characters is palpable, and despite the numerous obstacles and miscommunications that stand in their way, their eventual reunion feels both inevitable and deeply satisfying.

Gabriel, the quintessential alpha male, often teeters on the edge of being unlikable. His dominance and arrogance can be off-putting, but TL Swan expertly balances this with glimpses of his softer side, particularly in his interactions with Grace and their children. This complexity makes him a more nuanced character, even if he is sometimes difficult to love.

Grace, on the other hand, is a standout character with remarkable internal strength. Her resilience and determination shine through, and as a reader, you can’t help but root for her at every turn. Her evolution throughout the novel is inspiring, making her a truly memorable heroine.

Listening to the audiobook, narrated by CJ Bloom and Sean Masters, added an extra layer of depth to the experience. The duet style narration, while not my usual preference, grew on me as I adapted to the cadence. The quality of the audio production was exceptional, free from errors, which is a rarity and a significant plus for any audiobook listener.

The storyline, while compelling, does have a few inconsistencies that can be distracting. As someone who often gets lost in the details, these minor lapses were a bit frustrating. However, they didn’t detract significantly from the overall enjoyment of the book.

The Bonus is a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with fiery chemistry, heart-wrenching moments, and the undeniable power of love that stands the test of time. Despite its minor flaws, it’s a romance that will keep you hooked from start to finish.
