A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert

A warm and emotional introduction to Ravenswood, where a prickly heroine finds connection with the neighbor who truly sees her.

A Girl Like Her is exactly the kind of character-driven romance I was hoping for when I picked up my first Ravenswood book. This small-town, neighbors-to-lovers romance balances tenderness and humor with deeper emotional weight in a way that feels effortless. Ruth and Evan drew me in almost immediately, and Hibbert does an especially strong job showing how Ruth’s reputation in Ravenswood has shaped her life and how isolating it feels to live in a town that has already decided who you are.

These two make such a compelling pair. Ruth is unapologetically prickly in the best sense of the word, guarded but deeply genuine, and I appreciated how fully Hibbert lets her be herself on the page. Evan meets her exactly where she is. He refuses to buy into the gossip surrounding her and instead takes the time to see who she really is. Their relationship develops with a steady sense of trust, and the open communication between them makes the emotional connection feel especially real.

The mystery surrounding Ruth’s past unfolds gradually, letting the reader piece things together alongside Evan while still seeing the quieter moments between Ruth and her sister that hint at the truth. Watching Ruth finally confront Daniel and reclaim her story was incredibly satisfying.

This story left me eager to spend more time in Ravenswood. I’m already looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
