Boots Beneath Her Bed by Taylor Esposito
A debut that feels like the start of something special.
Boots Beneath Her Bed is one of the most impressive debuts I’ve read in a long time. Taylor Esposito has written something that feels both fresh and nostalgic—the kind of romance that reminded me why I fell in love with the genre in the first place.
Grace has been through so much, and watching her find safety and belonging at Halcyon Ranch is deeply satisfying. She’s easy to root for from the very first page. Crew starts off guarded and slow to trust, but once he truly sees Grace, the yearning is everything. Even with the story told mostly from Grace’s POV, I never felt like I was missing his perspective. His actions and dialogue say more than enough.
The ranch itself feels fully lived in, from the rhythm of the work to the relationships between the people who call it home. The found family element is a standout, and Crew’s family had me invested almost immediately. This is the kind of world you want to stay in.
It feels like the start of something bigger—a family saga I’m already attached to. There’s a tease at the end for what’s coming next, and I’m more than ready to go back to Halcyon Ranch.
