The Mating Game by Lana Ferguson

Snowy lodge vibes, instant heat, and a grumpy alpha who falls harder than he planned.

The Mating Game was my first Lana Ferguson book, and it’s a cute, spicy shifter romance with a fun alpha/omega setup. I loved the renovation premise and the snowy lodge setting, and Hunter is the right kind of grumpy—stern on the surface but quick to soften once he realizes how drawn he is to Tess and how much she needs support during her unexpected omega shift. Their chemistry is immediate and very hot, and the first half of the book pulled me in quickly.

Where it didn’t work as well for me was the balance between the heat and the relationship itself. Once things turn spicy, the pace slows down and the emotional development gets a little overshadowed by the physical pull between them. The biological attraction is a big part of the omegaverse, but I found myself wanting a bit more tension, more buildup, and more room for their connection to deepen outside the heat cycles.

Still, it’s an entertaining, easy read with cozy vibes and plenty of chemistry. I had a good time with it, and I’ll definitely pick up more from Lana Ferguson.
