On the Edge | Annabeth Albert

One of the reasons series are so much fun to read is you get to know characters before we get to read about them finding their person.

Jonas is always the one to step in and help take care of everyone around him, he moved in to help his friend after his husband died.  He steps in to help take care of the teens and he always helps out at the hospital where he is a nurse.  But it just seems that he often overlooks himself.  Readers really didn’t know much about Jonas or his past, but we knew that he was a giant teddy bear.  He is one of my favorite characters in this series, he is strong, steady, and seems to always know when to listen and what to say.  But in On the Edge it is clear that Jonas is lonely; there really isn’t anyone that takes care of Jonas.  So when he steps in once again to help his friend’s son recuperate after an accident … .the feels just couldn’t be helped.

Declan is a daredevil, and loves to be on his dirt bike.  His adrenaline is always pumping and he strives to be better and better.  It is almost like if he sat still long enough then he would need to face his feelings and tackle some of his deepest darkest fears.  After an accident halts his career he recuperates near his dad.  Declan is really misunderstood, my heart really hurt for him.  He definitely has some relationship repairing to do and I think grew the most in this book.  I really love how he went with his gut and followed his heart- and his heart lead him to Jonas.
While Joans and Declan might seem like an odd pair to the outside world; however they really balanced one another out and their emotional connection was so apparent as a reader I had no choice but to 100% be in their corner.  Declan needs someone to ground him, and take him seriously.  While Jonas needs someone to remind him that he is worth putting himself first sometimes. If you love an age gap with a teddy bear of a bear, a found family, small town, and a strong emotional connection this needs to be on your kindle!
