Review: Decidedly with Luck by Stina Lindenblatt
Rating: 3/5
Steam: 3/5
Angst: 3/5
Trope: single dad, hockey romance, widow, secret pregnancy, reunited friends, mistaken identity, teacher/parent
This story is a continuation of the short story from the Jingle Balls Ball about Kiera and Grayson. They have a one-night stand with an unexpected outcome which is just the beginning. (This is Part I of the Book.)
Part II is the continuation and fall out of the one-night stand. This was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster read of a romance. Big emotions of swoon and quickly swing to heartache. I also had some big responses to Keira and some of the choices she makes.
This story does flow well and can easily be read in a single sitting. This is my first time reading Stina Lindenblatt. Even though the book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone easily. I did like her characters and I am interested in going back and reading some of the characters other stories.
I had a few issues with the characters and movement of the storyline. However, it was an easy read.
I typically love a secret baby and mistaken identity trope especially when done well. This was not done well. Kiera’s choices to lie about how she got pregnant at first were understandable until the parents of her dead husband got involved. At this point in the story it is cruel. I never want a story that has the potential to truly hurt someone’s heart. She also had so much time to tell them the truth. Because of these choices she makes it is very hard to care for the character and connect with her. Her friends are great but her lies and indecision make it hard to anticipate and enjoy the story.
The other side of that is Logan and his choices. He should have come clean about his identity. He should have fessed about the ball. It also plays into the believability of the relationship. If you start to become intimate with someone at some point, there should have been hints as to it was them. Honestly, no one has that many sexual moves to not repeat things after several months together.
The storyline just really didn’t work for me. There were just so many little pitfalls that really bothered me in this story.
If you are reading this for the series this is one I would honestly skip. It just wasn’t great.
