First to Fall is one of the first historical romances I have read in a long time. I don’t typically go for the historical, I don’t feel a draw to them. However, Laney Hatcher writes in the Smartypants Romance world, and I thought why not give this a try. Also, it’s never a bad idea to broaden my reading chops.
I am happy I did. While I am not going to a deep dive into the world of historical romances after this, I will be giving Hatcher more of my time. This is a friends to lovers; marriage of convenience romance where both the hero and heroine are virgins. This isn’t something you see even in the historical world, so it was a nice change of pace. Augie and Emery grew up as friends, and go into this arrangement to avoid futures they don’t want… but as this fake relationship moves forward, they find that maybe the future they always wanted and needed was right there the whole time.
These two circle their true feelings, and there are some missteps. I enjoyed their story and they both had some growing to do. As a couple as well as individuals. But there truly is one that is First To Fall, but who is it?
