Untamed Heart by Gemma Morr
A quick, cozy cowboy romance for readers who love familiar tropes and low-stakes drama.
Untamed Heart is a cozy, low-angst cowboy romance with strong small-town vibes and a heroine who is easy to root for. Overall, as a debut and the first book in the Diamond Back Ranch series, it has a solid foundation and plenty of charm.
For me, Lottie was the clear standout. I loved watching her step away from the life she thought she wanted and reconnect with her roots at the ranch. Her attachment to Jackson Hole felt genuine and emotionally grounded. Cole fits the rugged cowboy archetype well. However, I would have liked additional time in his POV throughout the story. While we do get some of his perspective toward the end, it left me wanting a bit more to fully balance the romance.
That said, I didn’t mind the shorter length at all. Instead, the romance and the rival ranch storyline could have used a little extra space to fully develop while keeping the pacing tight. At times, a few instances of British English used for Wyoming characters stood out. Still, this was minor and didn’t significantly impact my enjoyment.
Ultimately, this is an easy, fast read that feels reminiscent of a Harlequin-length novel with a modern cowboy romance vibe. As a result, it’s a good fit for readers looking for cozy ranch settings, familiar tropes, and low stakes. I’m interested to see how the series continues.
