Review: Curvy Girl Summer by Danielle Allen
Danielle Allen delivers a romance that feels like sunshine, laughter, and a shot of confidence all rolled into one.
Aaliyah is a heroine you canât help but root forâfunny, self-assured, and unapologetically herself, even when navigating family pressures, fatphobia, and the chaos of dating apps. Watching her stumble through cringe-worthy dates and still show up with heart and humor was relatable and refreshing. Ahmad, on the other hand, is pure swoon: the kind of friend who becomes the safe place, the spark, and ultimately the love story she deserves.
The friends-to-lovers trope absolutely shines here. Their banter and trust make the romance feel earned, and when the sparks finally ignite, the payoff is everything. The spice adds heat without overshadowing the heart of the story, and the âbig birthdayâ milestone gave the narrative a fun, celebratory rhythm.
This book made me laugh, swoon, and cheer for a heroine who knows her worth and a romance that felt authentic from start to finish. Itâs body-positive, heartfelt, and joyfully romanticâperfect for anyone who loves their rom-coms with heart, humor, and a good dose of heat.
