Love Sucks by Cynthia St. Aubin

Mystery, mayhem, and karaoke—Hanna’s adventures are back and as chaotic as ever.

Love Sucks picks up right where the first Alpha Art Gallery book left off, tossing Hanna headfirst into another round of paranormal chaos—this time with murdered werewolves and more trouble than she bargained for. Hanna is still a hilarious hot mess, equal parts endearing and exasperating, and I had fun following her through this zany, unpredictable plot.

The humor is one of the big draws here. The karaoke scene with her coworkers had me laughing out loud, and the wacky side characters continue to add sparkle to every scene. I also enjoyed the growing chemistry between Hanna and Abernathy. He might drive me crazy with all his disappearing acts, but there’s finally a reason for it by the end—and I’m firmly Team Abernathy (though Morrison is still intriguing, and I’m curious if there’s more to him than just “human detective”).

Where the book wobbled a bit for me was in the execution of the mystery. The story is fun and fast, but details are often left unexplained until much later, which kept both Hanna and me in the dark more than I wanted. Still, the reveal at the end with the villain worked well, and the glimpse into Hanna’s past left me intrigued for what’s to come in book three.

Overall, this is a witty, lighthearted supernatural mystery that balances humor, slow-burn romance, and paranormal hijinks. If you liked book one, you’ll enjoy this continuation—and I’ll definitely be picking up the next installment to see where Hanna’s wild adventures lead.
